| Band ‑ Northern High School offers a full Band Program under the direction of Mr. Frank Lapinski including Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, and Percussion Ensemble. |
| NHS Cheerleaders ‑ As ambassadors of the school, the NHS cheerleaders promote and demonstrate school spirit, teamwork, and school pride. They are also advocates for education and are recognized as scholar athletes |

Elite Modeling Troupe - Elite modeling troupe is a student led organization. This modeling troupe helps to gain or enhance one’s modeling experience. It is a good stepping stone for aspiring models or someone who is open minded, and willing to try new things. Dancers are also welcome here at Northern High School’s Elite Modeling Troupe. Elite’s captains are Kenrick Buie, Larry Roseboro, and Leondra Richardson. For questions, contact the captains. |
| Engineers Club, Drafting Club, and Careers in Construction ‑ All three clubs are designed to explore careers in drafting, engineering, and construction. Students create their own opportunities in each field and participate in varied and complex competition and service projects. |
| FBLA ‑ FBLA is the National Student organization for all secondary school students participating in Business Education programs. Its mission is to develop competent, aggressive business leadership, strengthen the confidence of students in themselves and their work, encourage scholarship and promote an understanding of the American business enterprise. |
| FCA ‑ Fellowship of Christian Athletes ‑ to present to athletes and coaches and all whom they influence, the challenge and adventure of receiving Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, serving Him in their relationships and in the fellowship of the church. |
| FCCLA ‑ Family and Community Leaders of America ‑ FCCLA is a national student organization that encourages personal growth, prepares students for careers, fosters family and community involvement and helps members become leaders. Any student who has taken a Family and Consumer Science course in middle or high school may become a member. |

| French Club - The French Club offers increased awareness of French culture through various activities and an opportunity for first-hand experience. |
| Gospel Choir - The mission of the NHS Gospel Choir Is to provide an atmosphere that promotes spiritual and emotional, growth. The choir renders services to the educational and religious communities through various musical activities and experiences. |
| Habitat for Humanity - to raise awareness of the substandard housing problem; to raise money to help fund homes; to raise "roofs" by working at home sites with other volunteers and homeowners. |
| Honor Council - (not part of National Honor Society) This is a carefully selected and trained panel of students who will work with their peers who have been caught cheating twice. Honor Council will determine appropriate punishment/community service for the second time offenders who choose to appear before the Council in lieu of ISS time. |
| Junior Knightmoot - to perform service for the school and community; to raise money for the senior gift to the school; to plan the Junior-Senior prom |
| Key Club - The Key Club is a service club that reaches out to the community through the Ronald McDonald House, nursing homes, and other venues. Our motto is "Caring: Our Way of Life." |
| National Honor Society - The National Honor Society exists to honor those students who excel in these four areas: scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Students must have a 3.6 gpa by the end of the 1st semester of their Junior year to be eligible to apply for membership. |

Ping-Pong Club - We meet most Thursdays in H-11 to chat, play ping-pong, and have fun. All Students are welcome. |
| Northern Lights Literary magazine - The literary magazine publishes creative writing and art work of Northern students. All funding for the publication is raised by the students; thus, donations are always welcome. |
| SADD - (Students Against Destructive Decisions) - to educate and inform students of the dangers of destructive decisions; concentrating on reckless driving, driving while impaired, failure to wear seatbelts, and suicide. SADD also sponsors Northern's registration for Durham County's Project Graduation celebration. |
| SAVE - The purpose of SAVE is to promote nonviolence in the school and community environment. SAVE will provide education about the effects and consequences of violence and provide safe extracurricular activities for students. |
| Spanish Club - to foster greater understanding and appreciation of all Spanish-tpeaking countries and people; to experience the food, culture, and language of Spanish-speaking countries. |
| Spanish National Honor Society - to recognize high achievement in Spanish and to promote continuity of interest ' Hispanic studies; to honor students with an A average in Spanish for the past 3 semesters; to promote the study of Spanish and honor the culture of the Spanish language |

| Sports Medicine – Education of students interested in pursuing a career in athletic training and to provide an acceptable standard of care for student athletes. |
| Knights and Ladies – Juniors and Seniors who have a 3.0 GPA or higher. This is Northern’s own recognition for a 3.0 or higher GPA. |
| UNC-CH MSEN Pre-College Program – To broaden the pool of students pursuing mathematics- and science-based majors and careers. The Pre-College Program actively recruits and prepare students of average to above average ability in grades 6-12 who have not been sufficiently exposed to mathematics- and science-based courses and careers. |
