Dear Parents/Guardians, Teachers, Students,

Welcome to the 2009-2010 school year and NHS PTSA.  We invite you to be involved with your student and NHS this year in the following areas:

* JOIN PTSA – Show your support!  Memberships are only $5.00 for parents, students, and teachers.
The PTSA honors students for perfect attendance and making the Honor Roll with Brownie Ice Cream Sundaes each quarter, and we recognize those students who volunteer in the community. We also help improve school grounds; provide teacher grants for items not budgeted by DPS; coordinate Parent/Teacher conference night, provide a meal for the teachers 4 times a year; sponsor Teacher Appreciation Week, and help to provide proctors for end-of-course testing.  We are busy for the benefit of the school!

* MAKE A GENEROUS DONATION – We make it simple!  Rather than sell candy, wrapping paper, or other things we don’t need, we kindly request a simple donation.  This is a tax-deductible, one-time contribution and we appreciate your support.  These donations are very important.  We can no longer do our primary fundraiser, the nacho sales, due to changes in DPS policy that prohibit food sales at school, and as a result, we are struggling financially.  If everyone would chip in with a small donation, we will be able to continue the things we do for Northern.

* BECOME INVOLVED – Sign up for a PTSA committee and help out.  We need volunteers to help with Hospitality, Beautification, Fund Raising, Senior Breakfast, Student Recognition.  Sign up sheets will be at both Open Houses or you can fill out the attached volunteer form and turn it in with your membership form.

* SIGN-UP FOR “PAINLESS GIVING” – Food Lion and Harris Teeter will donate a small portion of your grocery purchases to NHS if you sign-up (wouldn’t you rather the school get the money?)  If we have your MVP and VIC, numbers, we will sign you up or you may go to the stores’ websites.  It only takes a few minutes; last year we made $756.00 just from grocery sales.  With a student body as large as NHS we could do much better!   The grocery rebate programs require that you sign-up at the start of each new school year.

* SIGN-UP FOR WEEKLY E-MAIL UPDATES – Send a blank email to:  NHS-SBDMC@yahoogroups.com and you will automatically receive weekly updates on the upcoming activities at NHS.  Stay informed!  Check out the school website:  http://www.northern.dpsnc.net.

Please mail or bring your completed Membership/Donation Form and your Volunteer Form to either our New Student Open House on August 20th or to Open House in September.  You will receive a Chick-fil-a coupon for each membership.  You may also drop the forms off in the office at any time.
