Northern High School Vision and Mission Statement, 2005-2008

Northern High School strives to ensure that students achieve at their highest potential, regardless of gender, ethnicity, ability, or socio-economic status. Our mission is to provide a safe environment for learning where every student makes continuous progress and is prepared for a productive future.

Northern High School Beliefs Statements, 2005-2008

1.       Student learning is the chief priority for our school; all students have potential and can learn.

2.       Every member of the school community is a valued individual with a shared goal of success.

3.       It is essential to recognize that students bring with them a variety of life experiences and to create an environment in which all students can learn and feel connected.

4.       Adults and students perform best in an atmosphere of mutual respect and safety.

5.       Our school is a place where adolescents are transformed into confident, self-directed, life-long learners, prepared to serve as world citizens.

6.       Students have diverse learning styles and should be provided with a variety of instructional approaches to support their learning.

7.       The learning experience should provide students with authentic contexts to explore, develop, and apply their learning.

8.       Students will be responsible for and held accountable for their learning and behavior.

9.       Clear goals and high expectations for student achievement should guide the development of the curriculum and the design of instructional strategies and learning activities.

10.    Assessments of student learning should provide students with a variety of opportunities to demonstrate their achievement.
